Invest in Success this Holiday Season and Avoid PMS Symptoms

November 02, 2015

The holidays are a time to gather around with family and friends. With the holidays comes the family dinners, office parties, apartment potlucks, which means a lot of opportunities for eating and drinking and while it may be one of the most wonderful times of the year, your body may think otherwise.

Not enjoying your favorite holiday foods is a Grinch-like move. Thankfully, there are ways to spread holiday cheer without packing on the pounds.

Schedule Your Gym Days

The holidays are a busy time— the crowds, trips to the mall, long car rides/ plane flights to visit friends and families. Although it can be hectic, don’t make it an excuse for skipping your exercise. You may not have the time to make it your favorite yoga class and be really tempted to skip leg day, but continuing your exercise will not only keep you healthy, reduce PMS symptoms, but let you feel less guilty about the few extra foods and drinks you’ve been having. This way you can truly enjoy your holiday meals without anticipating the regret that comes shortly after a slice of pecan pie.

Use A Smaller Plate

This is a super easy way to stop from over indulging. Using an appetizer size plate will trick your brain into thinking you are eating more than you actually are. It also forces you to choose the foods you really enjoy so you won’t fill your plate with the “why not” foods.

Be Picky

Going off the last tip, be picky! You don’t need to sample every single dish. Scan the buffet table and pick the foods you’ve really been craving. Skip the foods you can get in everyday life and fill your plate with seasonal dishes that are only available during the holidays. This will help limit the amount you eat and will also keep things festive!

Keep Things Snug

Stop digging through your closet trying to find your stretchiest pair of trousers. To prevent yourself from unbuttoning your pants at the dinner table, wear tight-fitted clothing to stop you from over-eating and help shift your focus on other things besides food. This is also the perfect opportunity to wear that sexy holiday dress you’ve been eyeing.

Remember Your New Year’s Resolutions

The holidays mark the near closing of the year so it’s easy to convince yourself that you deserve to end the year with one too many eggnogs and gingerbread cookies. With New Year’s right around the corner and your clean start only weeks away, it’s tempting to ignore the consequences. Change this mindset and ask yourself if this is really the way you want to end your year and start the upcoming one.

The holidays are a time to cherish with loved ones and if that means eating and drinking a little more than usual, so be it. The stress and energy to resist your favorite seasonal dishes should not impede your holiday spirit. Just by following the few easy tips above should help ease your anxiety and help you celebrate the season without thinking twice.
