It’s Okay to Mess Up: Motivation to Start Again

One of the hardest parts about accomplishing any goal is sticking to it.  At the slightest slip-up, we’re often discouraged and ready to throw in the towel.  Ate a cookie?  Diet’s completely ruined.  Missed cardio at the gym?  I’ll never lose weight.  The list goes on - and it’s twice as hard when you’re dealing with PMS.  But don’t give up!  Any goal worth pursuing is going to be difficult, so here’s some motivation to push past those setbacks and keep moving forward.

Forgive Yourself

Don’t be too hard on yourself - everybody makes mistakes.  Acknowledge that the setback happened, accept it, and move on.  Don’t let a slip-up drag you down.  Instead, use it as fuel to push you toward regaining your momentum and keep moving toward your goals.

Write It Down

Sometimes you can lose track of how well you’ve been doing when all you can focus on is the slip-up day.  To avoid this, record your progress in a daily journal that you can look back on if you’re having a bad day.  I’m not saying count calories or anything, but rather just make a note of how well you’re sticking to your goals each day.  That way, you can look back and feel better about your progress if you have just one bad day.

Get Psyched with a Playlist

Create a pump-up playlist for yourself to fall back on when you need some more motivation.  Fill it with upbeat pop songs, dance tracks, girl-power songs, whatever makes you feel better about life - and turn it on loud when you need a reminder of how great you are.


The most important thing is not to give up!  You are stronger than your mistakes and can accomplish great, beautiful things.  With the right coping tools and mindset, not even PMS symptoms can stop you from achieving your goals!
